Tax Manager – Japan Business/Corporate Tax
Deloitte Tax Services India Private Limited (“Deloitte Tax in India”) commenced operations in June 2004. All Deloitte Tax U.S. service lines have Deloitte Tax in India professionals aligned with US counterparts to deliver tax services to clients.
Work you’ll do
We are seeking a Tax Manager to support/lead delivery of Japan Business/Corporate Tax services. The role involves working on Japanese tax compliance and related processes across areas such as corporate tax, consumption tax, local inhabitant tax, enterprise tax, and withholding tax. The individual will be responsible for managing tax workstreams, ensuring quality and timeliness of deliverables, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and/or review Japan tax returns, tax workpapers, and supporting documentation.
- Support compliance activities related to Japanese corporate and business tax requirements.
- Analyze financial and tax data, identify gaps, and follow up on open items.
- Perform tax research and document findings in a clear and structured manner.
- Maintain schedules, trackers, and engagement documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of deliverables.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and support standardization initiatives.
- Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance.
- Manage end-to-end delivery, team allocation, quality control, and stakeholder communication.
The Team
Deloitte's Global Employer Services (GES) practice based in London provides practical and creative solutions to clients. The GES practice is made up of several specialist groups, including Payroll Service delivery (PSD) team. This entails collating Payroll data from various predefined sources, preparing payroll instructions and providing these to the client’s payroll provide. On completion of the payroll processing, Deloitte will complete reconciliation checks and then produce management information reports to the clients. PSD services are delivered to agreed timetables under client Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The payroll team also supports new client implementations and the set-up of the payroll technology platform to facilitate the delivery of BAU services.
Qualifications
Eligibility Criteria
- MBA/master’s degree in commerce, Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
- of relevant experience in Japan Business/Corporate Tax.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Japanese corporate tax
- Consumption tax
- Local inhabitant tax
- Enterprise tax
- Withholding tax
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related productivity/reporting tools.
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.

Language Requirements
- Preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with strong experience in Japan Business/Corporate Tax may be considered regardless of Japanese language proficiency. JLPT N3 / N2 / N1 is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in preparation and/or review of Japanese tax returns and compliance documentation.
- Japanese tax certifications or related credentials, such as:
- Japanese Bookkeeping Test (Boki)
- Zeirishi qualification or progress in Zeirishi examinations
- Experience in professional services, shared services, or global delivery environment.
- Experience working with Japanese stakeholders or Japan-focused engagements.
Work Location: Hyderabad/Bengaluru/Gurgaon/Kolkata/Chennai/Pune/Mumbai/Hybrid/Remote
Shift Time: 11AM – 8PM IST
