BTS Tax Operate - Tax Senior Manager (USI)
Role summary
The Senior Manager will serve as a senior engagement management lead across a portfolio of complex U.S. domestic and global tax compliance engagements, with accountability for day-to-day client engagement delivery, governance, and execution.
This role is accountable for delivery governance, engagement economics, executive communication, transitions, issue resolution, and team leadership across a portfolio of tax compliance and reporting engagements. The Senior Manager will help ensure a consistent, scalable, and high-quality client and internal experience by aligning delivery discipline, stakeholder management, operational visibility, and coordination across the engagement lifecycle.
Strategic Engagement Leadership
- Serve as the senior engagement management lead across a portfolio of complex U.S. corporate and investment management tax engagements, providing strategic oversight, leadership presence, and accountability for delivery quality and client outcomes.
- Lead large-scale engagement governance and project management, ensuring strategic alignment, risk management, and clear visibility to senior leadership and clients.
- Provide direction across workstreams, teams, and leadership groups to drive transparency, delivery discipline, and accountability.
- Support coordination across U.S. and global engagement teams to ensure consistent execution and alignment to client service expectations
Delivery Governance and Operational Excellence
- Oversee engagement plans, service delivery milestones, compliance calendars, and governance routines to ensure work is executed in line with client expectations and internal quality standards.
- Drive visibility into engagement status through dashboards, reporting packs, and web-based tracking tools.
- Monitor execution against client service plans and ensure timely follow-through on obligations, milestones, and deliverables.
- Lead issue resolution and risk management across the engagement portfolio, escalating material risks and coordinating with internal teams, service lines, and regional or member-firm counterparts as needed.
- Promote continuous improvement, standardized ways of working, and operational excellence across the broader playbook.
Client Relationship Management and Executive Communication
- Develop trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, engagement leaders, and PPMDs/LTPs, serving as a strategic advisor on engagement operations and delivery priorities.
- Lead executive communications, including governance calls, high-stakes presentations, monthly status reviews, and leadership updates tailored to audience and business need.
- Manage strategic messaging to ensure the right information reaches the right audience at the right time.
- Lead conference calls with clients to discuss compliance and obligation status and strengthen working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Support market visibility and eminence-building through internal and external relationship-building opportunities
Engagement Economics and Resource Strategy
- Oversee engagement economics, including staffing strategy, budget-to-actual performance, fee forecasting, and realization across the portfolio.
- Maintain resource visibility and staffing rosters across large or multi-workstream engagements, aligning talent to evolving client needs.
- Organize staffing and monitor budgets, communicating issues and performance trends to project leaders in a timely manner.
- Translate financial and operational data into actionable insights for engagement leadership.
- Coordinate with local and regional member-firm teams to align staffing, fee assumptions, and delivery expectations across global engagements
Transitions, Scope Changes, and Pursuits
- Lead transition planning for new engagements and major scope changes, including onboarding, scope confirmation, stakeholder alignment, and resource strategy.
- Lead the transition process end to end, including setup of delivery tracking tools, status reporting, and readiness oversight.
- Work with local and regional Deloitte teams to track transition status and manage scope discussions.
- Support development of engagement documentation, including assumptions, deliverables, and change control triggers.
- Review proposals, support opportunity setup, finalize fees and assumptions, and help shape commercially viable delivery approaches.
- Talent Leadership and Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams, fostering inclusion, accountability, trust, and strong team culture.

Qualifications / Experience
- Post-graduation/master’s in business administration preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant experience in engagement management, project management office leadership, tax operations, or related service delivery roles.
- Experience supporting U.S. corporate income tax compliance, investment management tax compliance, and/or global tax compliance and reporting environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex engagements involving portfolio oversight, stakeholder management, staffing strategy, budgeting, and risk management.
- Strong executive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong technology and reporting skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and data/reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Alteryx.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly to change, and lead teams through complexity.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled productivity and workflow tools is required.
