BTS Tax Operate – Tax Senior
Role summary
The Tax Senior will support day-to-day engagement management across U.S. domestic and global tax compliance engagements, helping drive delivery coordination, governance, status visibility, and issue resolution. The role is execution-focused, with responsibility for tracking workplans, monitoring deadlines, supporting deliverable management, and maintaining a strong client and internal service experience across the engagement lifecycle.
Engagement Management and Delivery Support
- Support day-to-day governance and project management across tax compliance engagements, ensuring transparency into the client’s tax compliance and reporting process through Deloitte platforms.
- Plan and execute against client service plans and maintain detailed workplans covering scope, timelines, dependencies, roles, and deliverables.
- Monitor engagement activity against established protocols and filing calendars; proactively flag delays, risks, and follow-up actions.
- Track deliverables and return status across teams to help ensure completeness, timeliness, and accurate reporting.
- Document issues, actions taken, and resolutions thoroughly and in line with engagement protocols.
- Identify and escalate delivery issues promptly, and actively support issue resolution.
- Prepare periodic status reports, dashboards, and trackers to support visibility for clients and engagement leadership.
- Contribute ideas for process improvements and support implementation of more efficient ways of working.
U.S. Tax Compliance Responsibilities
- Support governance and project management across U.S. corporate income tax and investment management tax compliance engagements, including federal and state compliance, tax provisions, extensions, quarterly estimates, partnership returns, K-1 preparation and distribution, fund and entity-level reporting, and related activities.
- Coordinate day-to-day U.S. compliance activities, including document and data requests, workpaper tracking, review readiness, and filing support.
- Monitor service line activity and filing deadlines across workstreams, and help drive timely follow-up with the right teams.
- Manage staffing assignments and task allocations across service lines based on timing, complexity, and team capacity.
- Support engagement financial tracking, including budget monitoring, variance analysis, billing support, and scope renewal coordination.
- Coordinate with service line teams as needed, including SALT, international tax, credits and incentives, and tax controversy.
Global Tax Compliance Responsibilities
- Support global governance and project management for global tax compliance engagements and help provide transparency into the client’s compliance and reporting process through the Deloitte platform.
- Monitor execution against global client service plans and support consistent delivery across jurisdictions.
- Track local member firm compliance with engagement protocols and filing deadlines.
- Monitor whether engagement deliverables are posted and whether return status is accurately documented by local territory teams.
- Identify and escalate local country issues promptly in accordance with communication protocols, and actively support issue resolution.
- Work with local and regional member firms to resolve issues, share insights, and improve delivery efficiency.
- Prepare or review periodic engagement status reports for client use.
- Support recurring calls with clients, Global Engagement Coordinators, and local country teams to discuss compliance status, obligations, and open items.
Transitions, Scope, and Fee Management
- Support transition activities for new engagements and client onboarding, including status tracking, documentation, and coordination across teams.
- Work with Staff and Deloitte teams to set up web-based platforms for service delivery tracking.
- Maintain transition trackers and follow up on milestones to keep onboarding activity current and visible.
- Draft or support drafting the Statement of Work, including scope boundaries, assumptions, deliverables, and scope and fee management.
- Track scope and fee changes and escalate to engagement leadership as appropriate.
Pursuits and Commercial Support
- Review RFPs and assist with setup of new opportunities in Pursuit Manager for new clients.
- Follow up with local member firms on pursuit inputs and response timelines.
- Review fees provided by local member firms against indicative fees and raise questions on assumptions or gaps.
- Prepare client-facing fee files and assumptions for Manager or Senior Manager review.
Client Communication and Stakeholder Coordination
- Build strong working relationships with client tax and finance stakeholders, Deloitte engagement leaders, and internal delivery teams.
- Facilitate recurring calls with clients and internal teams to discuss status, open items, deadlines, and issue resolution.
- Translate engagement activity into clear status updates, actions required, and next steps for both client and internal audiences.
- Maintain disciplined follow-up on actions, deliverables, and unresolved items to strengthen visibility and trust.
Team Support and Development
- Coach and support Staff team members through day-to-day guidance, training, and timely feedback.
- Contribute to a positive learning environment that encourages accountability, collaboration, and operational discipline.
- Continue building technical and operational knowledge by staying current on developments in tax compliance, reporting, and engagement management practices.
- Apply training and experience to real-life engagement scenarios with sound judgment and attention to detail.
Qualifications / Experience
- Post-graduation/master’s in business administration or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in engagement management, project management office support, tax operations, or related service delivery roles.
- Experience supporting U.S. corporate income tax compliance, investment management tax compliance, tax accounting/provision, and/or global tax compliance and reporting environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings, take structured notes, and communicate clearly with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements and workstreams simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing timelines and scope.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Comfort with regular interaction with client stakeholders, Partners, Directors, Senior Managers, and broader engagement teams.
- Strong technology skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled productivity and workflow tools is a plus.
