DI&A - Taxonomy Reporting Specialist

Data Integration and Architecture is the hub for Deloitte Talent Data, helping the US and US India Offices with Talent data and analytical needs. The data we provide, and our consultative services are used by different groups of the firm to drive people strategy in headcount forecast, retention, hiring, compensation, learning and resource management.

What is Taxonomy

The data within an organization is more complex when there are different member firms working together or the systems must interact on people data from different member firms, as it spans across various departments and roles. A taxonomy can help categorize this data into its respective fields and map the connections between them to make meaning and interactive between systems. Integrating the global taxonomies with local member firms and designing a unified taxonomy that cuts across all departments to support the broadest sharing of data across all the applications

Work you’ll do

The Taxonomist – Analyst is responsible for the hands-on development, implementation, and maintenance of taxonomy and classification systems. This role ensures that information is consistently organized, tagged, and managed to support business objectives, regulatory requirements, and user needs. Not only will you work independently, but you’ll also collaborate with a diverse group of talent teams. You’ll use our tools; technology and your other responsibilities will include:

Design and Update Taxonomies

  • Assist in creation and ongoing refinement of taxonomies, metadata schemas, and controlled vocabularies to meet evolving business needs.
  • Organize data and content into logical, hierarchical structures ensuring consistency and discoverability across platforms.
  • Track changes to taxonomy structures and maintain version histories to ensure consistency and traceability.

Quality Control

  • Review and validate content tagging to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with taxonomy guidelines.
  • Identify and address inconsistencies or ambiguities in content classification, escalating complex issues to senior team members as needed.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Global, Application Owners and Integration teams to understand classification needs and gather input for taxonomy enhancements.
  • Participate in stakeholder sessions to discuss taxonomy-related challenges and collect feedback.

Data Quality Assurance

  • Perform regular audits of taxonomy implementation across systems to identify gaps, misclassifications, or outdated terms.
  • Suggest enhancements to taxonomy structures, metadata fields, or classification processes based on audit findings and user feedback.

Documentation & Training

  • Develop in and maintain training materials and delivering sessions to educate stakeholders on taxonomy usage and benefits.
  • Participate in team meetings, knowledge-sharing sessions, and process improvement projects.

Threshold Management

  • When a threshold is reached, quickly analyze the cause by reviewing logs, reports, or user activity for patterns.
  • Reclassify or retag items as necessary and escalate to the integration team if dates are incorrect.
  • Contact content owners or users for more details. Record all threshold breaches, investigations, and solutions for reference.

Issue Identification and Analysis

  • Regularly review tickets and audit reports to identify issues such as access errors, missing data, or misclassified information.
  • Gather all relevant details, including screenshots, error messages, and user information, to conduct a thorough root cause analysis.
  • Determine whether the issue is related to taxonomy structure, metadata tagging, or classification logic.
  • Confirm that the affected user has the appropriate permissions and roles assigned within the taxonomy or content management system.
  • Consult internal guidelines and documentation to assess whether the issue can be resolved by the Taxonomy team. If a resolution is not possible, document the issue comprehensively in the relevant ticketing or incident management system, including all collected details and initial troubleshooting steps, then escalate it to the appropriate team for further resolution.
  • Monitor the status of the issue, coordinate with the responsible team, and provide timely updates to the user as necessary. Upon resolution, verify the solution, update documentation if needed, and confirm with the user that the issue has been successfully addressed.

Qualifications

Required:

        Graduate in any stream

        Experience of 1 to 4 Years in Reporting or Taxonomy role with quantitative and analytical skills

Technical Skills:

        Knowledge of Business Intelligence Tools like Business Warehouse, SQL etc.

        Advanced Excel Knowledge (strong understanding of excel formulas and functions)

        Knowledge of VBA Excel, Macros, Power BI

Soft Skills

        Keen attention to detail and data accuracy while publishing the standard reports

        Proficiency in gathering information to understand user needs, business context, and appropriate classification criteria

        Strong understanding of taxonomy principles, metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core), and hierarchical classification systems

        Strong communication skills (oral and written) to clarify data requests, escalate data issues, and writing analysis

        Skills to help teams adapt to new taxonomy or metadata schemes
