Active Directory & Email Engineer
The L3 Active Directory & Email Engineer is a dedicated Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and Email Administrator responsible for the reliability, security, and operational excellence of enterprise identity, authentication, and messaging services. This role provides advanced (Level 3) administration and escalation support across AD Domain Services, Group Policy, DNS, PKI-based authentication, Exchange 2019, and Microsoft 365 (O365), with a strong focus on incident resolution, change control, and continuous improvement in a large-scale environment (10,000+ users).
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, operate, and maintain enterprise authentication systems and identity services to meet availability, performance, and security requirements.
- Manage Microsoft Windows Active Directory domains using standard Microsoft administrative tools (e.g., Active Directory Users and Computers, Domains and Trusts, Sites and Services) and associated tooling as required.
- Implement and support Group Policy (GPO) including design, troubleshooting, remediation, and impact analysis.
- Build, maintain, patch, and troubleshoot Active Directory Domain Controllers (DCs), including replication, SYSVOL, sites/services, and backup/restore support.
- Provide expert-level DNS administration and troubleshooting in support of AD-integrated services and email/messaging dependencies.
- Create, modify, and maintain scripts used to manage, automate, and report on AD and related identity services (e.g., provisioning support, audits, health checks, reporting).
- Integrate and manage user authentication leveraging private/public key infrastructure (PKI) mechanisms (e.g., certificate-based auth, smart card/cert scenarios as applicable).
- Support and maintain Exchange and Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange 2019 administration and operational support for Microsoft tenants (as applicable to the environment).
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for Microsoft Outlook, including profile/configuration issues, connectivity, authentication, and performance-related problems.
- Act as an L3 escalation point for complex incidents and problems; drive root cause analysis (RCA), corrective actions, and knowledge transfer to L1/L2 teams.
- Work within maintenance windows and change control procedures, including planning, implementation, validation, and rollback coordination.
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors to resolve cross-domain issues and deliver service improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience monitoring and maintaining enterprise authentication systems in complex environments supporting 10,000+ users.
- Strong experience managing complex Active Directory architectures (multi-site, multi-domain/forest considerations as applicable).
- Demonstrated experience scripting for AD administration and reporting.
- Expert-level DNS skills (design, operations, troubleshooting).
- Experience supporting Exchange (on-prem) and Microsoft 365 (O365) hybrid or cloud environments (as applicable).
- Expert-level Microsoft Outlook troubleshooting in enterprise environments.
- Expert-level incident management experience, including tracking and resolving issues via a ticket queue and documenting resolutions.
- Experience with cloud systems, especially Microsoft Azure and Microsoft tenants administration concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document procedures and explain technical issues clearly.
- Proven ability to take ownership, manage competing priorities, and multi-task across multiple projects and customer requirements.
- Strong commitment to process compliance (change control, maintenance windows) and operational rigor.
- Eager to learn, continuously improve, and stay current with Microsoft identity and messaging technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology (or related field) and 3 to 7 years of relevant IT experience.
- Prior experience supporting identity/email services for a large enterprise organization.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with peer teams and client stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating and delivering outcomes with multiple vendors.
Working Conditions / On-Call (Optional — include if applicable)
- Participation in an on-call rotation and support during maintenance windows may be required based on operational needs.

Shift Timing: Shift between 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM IST
