Position Summary

Level: Senior Manager or equivalent [Specialist Leader – Mainframe Modernization]

As a Senior Manager/Specialist leader at Deloitte Consulting, you will play the role of Mainframe Modernization expert who leads technical delivery for complex, enterprise-wide modernization of legacy systems. You will lead and guide multidisciplinary, global teams and serve as a senior mentor to managers and junior staff. You will partner closely with clients and internal stakeholders to align solution strategies with business goals, contribute to sales and proposal development, and ensure rigorous management of end-to-end project delivery, including scoping, estimation, and executive reporting for successful project outcomes.

Work you’ll do:

As a Senior Manager, you will collaborate with client and internal leadership to shape solution strategies that align with key business objectives. You will provide expert oversight throughout the technical delivery lifecycle—guiding architectural decisions, driving best practices, and ensuring solutions meet quality standards. In this role, you will manage multidisciplinary teams, coach and mentor talent, and oversee project progress through executive status reporting and risk mitigation. Additionally, you will support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, providing solution insights, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications

Must Have Skills/Project Experience/Certifications:


  • 15+ years overall software engineering experience, including delivery leadership in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Proven mainframe modernization track record (e.g., replatform/refactor/replace/strangler patterns), from assessment through cutover and stabilization to newer archecture and platforms.
  • Deep mainframe technical background: hands-on experience with COBOL and core mainframe ecosystems (e.g., CICS/IMS/DB2, JCL, VSAM), including performance and batch considerations.
  • Hands-on distributed development experience in Java (microservices preferred) ,Python and modern engineering practices (APIs, CI/CD, test automation).
  • Led complex engineering engagements (multi-team, multi-vendor), owning scope, plan, RAID, budgets, and executive stakeholder management.
  • AI adoption in engineering experience: implementing GenAI-assisted SDLC use cases (code modernization, test generation, documentation, defect triage) with measurable outcomes and governance.
  • Cloud expertise in at least one hyperscaler (AWS/GCP/Azure), including landing zones, security/IAM, networking, observability, and cost/performance management.
  • Architecture strength: ability to define target-state architecture, integration patterns, data/messaging, resiliency, and NFRs (security, latency, throughput, RTO/RPO).
  • Certifications: one or more of AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, and/or TOGAF (or equivalent architecture credential).
  • Modern delivery & governance: Agile/SAFe delivery leadership, strong quality engineering, release management, change management, and risk/compliance awareness (auditability, SDLC controls).

Good to Have Skills/Project Experience/Certifications:

  • Actively follows research papers, comprehends and innovates/presents breakthrough approaches/solutions related to Mainframe Modernization, Generative AI and Agentic AI components
  • Deep knowledge of industry business use cases from certain sector or sub sectors
  • Proven track record in mentoring senior teams and driving technical excellence across large-scale programs
