Position Summary
Level: Senior Consultant
As an experienced Consultant at Deloitte Consulting, you will be responsible for independently delivering high-quality work products within due timelines. As needed, you will mentor and/or direct junior team members and liaise with onsite/offshore teams to understand functional requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases across development, test, and production environments.
- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and security hardening aligned to best practices.
- Manage backup/restore, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including SQL Server Always On availability groups and failover configurations.
- Diagnose and resolve complex performance issues using execution plans, indexing strategies, wait statistics, and query tuning.
- Proactively monitor database health, capacity, and availability to ensure service level agreement (SLA) adherence.
- Design and maintain automation scripts/jobs to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort (T-SQL, PowerShell).
- Support database migrations, including version upgrades and on-premises to cloud migrations (Amazon Web Services (AWS) / Microsoft Azure).
- Administer large-scale PostgreSQL environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and data integrity.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management, including root cause analysis (RCA) and preventive actions.
- Design and implement backup, recovery, and replication solutions using native PostgreSQL tooling.
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams during deployments, upgrades, and performance troubleshooting.
- Automate routine operations and performance monitoring via scripting and monitoring tools to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot production issues such as blocking, deadlocks, 100% CPU, 100% memory, log file full, and TempDB-related issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, automation, and standardization of database administrator (DBA) processes.

Qualifications
Must Have Skills / Project Experience
- 6–10 years of hands-on experience as a DBA in Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL environments (deep proficiency in at least one).
- Experience in installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and security hardening.
- Strong knowledge of backup/restore, HA, and DR (e.g., SQL Server Always On, clustering).
- Ability to develop and maintain automation jobs to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to tune and optimize SQL Server databases (query optimization, indexing, execution plan analysis).
- Experience administering large-scale PostgreSQL environments with high availability and strong data integrity.
- Experience planning and executing migrations (on-prem to on-prem and on-prem to cloud in Azure and AWS).
- Proven troubleshooting of complex issues (performance degradation, blocking, deadlocks, corruption).
- Strong security fundamentals: roles, permissions, encryption, auditing.
- PostgreSQL specifics: query plans, indexing strategies, vacuum/analyze.
- Exposure to SQL Server monitoring and maintenance activities.
- Ability to work in 24x7 support environments and handle critical production issues.
Good to Have Skills / Project Experience / Certifications
- Exposure to cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS Relational Database Service (RDS), Azure, Oracle Cloud).
- Hands-on with automation/monitoring tools (e.g., SQL Server Agent, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Redgate, SolarWinds).
- Experience with migrations (on-prem to cloud, version upgrades, platform migrations).
- Ability to support additional relational database management system (RDBMS) platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL) as needed.
- Knowledge of advanced security such as Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Advanced Threat Protection (ATP).
- Certifications: MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL Certified Associate; Microsoft Certified Azure and AWS Database Administrator Associate.
Education
- BE/B.Tech/M.C.A./M.Sc (CS) or equivalent degree from an accredited university.
