Position Summary

Level: Consultant

As an experienced Consultant at Deloitte Consulting, you will be responsible for individually delivering high quality work products within due timelines. As needed, you will mentor and/or direct junior team members and liaise with onsite/offshore teams to understand functional requirements.

Work you’ll do

Apply industry knowledge to requirements gathering and analysis, ensuring alignment with sector needs. Demonstrate expertise across the end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC), from design and coding to deployment and defect resolution, collaborating with stakeholders for effective delivery. Conduct peer and team reviews to maintain quality standards. Actively engage in Agile practices, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and effort estimation. Build and share business process knowledge, supporting project knowledge management and team training. Proactively recommend process improvements, track efficiency gains, and contribute to automation and innovation to enhance project outcomes and deliver greater value to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and IBM Db2 environments.
  • Manage backup and restore strategies, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Monitor performance and proactively troubleshoot database issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation (runbooks, data dictionaries, deployment procedures).
  • Support production incidents, including root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Implement database security controls (roles/permissions, encryption options, least-privilege access) and support audit/compliance requirements.
  • Conduct query tuning, index optimization, and workload analysis.
  • Implement best practices for database performance, reliability, and security.
  • Analyze slow-running queries and optimize database performance across platforms.
  • Support migration projects across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Db2, and cloud platforms.
  • Develop ETL processes and data pipelines using industry-standard tools.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and minimal downtime during migrations.

Qualifications

Must Have Skills / Project Experience / Certifications

  • 3–6 years of hands-on experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Agent, pgAdmin, Db2 tools, monitoring tools, and performance analyzers.
  • Advanced proficiency in PostgreSQL administration and development.
  • Working knowledge of IBM Db2 (Linux/UNIX/Windows (LUW) preferred).
  • Expertise in SQL scripting, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
  • Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
  • Experience with data migration tools and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of database security, auditing, and compliance.
  • Experience driving cloud cost optimization and financial accountability, partnering with engineering, finance, and business teams to maximize cloud investment value.
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate; AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, Shell, or Python.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus.

Good to Have Skills / Project Experience / Certifications

  • Migration experience (e.g., Db2 → PostgreSQL/SQL Server; SQL Server → PostgreSQL).
  • Cloud database experience (Azure SQL / Managed Instance, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server/PostgreSQL, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DataOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and containerized deployments.
  • Basic scripting (PowerShell, Python, or shell) for automation.

Education

  • BE/B.Tech/M.C.A./M.Sc (CS) degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
