US Corporate Tax Engagement Management – Manager
Support on Delivery, Compliance & Tax Accounting
- Serve as the central engagement management lead, bridging tax technical teams and client stakeholders to ensure predictable, high‑quality delivery across complex U.S. corporate tax engagements.
- Drive a consistent, low‑surprise client experience through proactive communication, disciplined planning, and timely issue resolution.
- Manage and lead engagement governance and project management for U.S. corporate income tax engagements (e.g., federal and state compliance, tax provisions, extensions, quarterly estimates, and supporting workstreams), providing clear visibility to the client on status, milestones, and open items.
- Build and run detailed engagement workplans (scope, timeline, dependencies, roles, deliverables, and review cycles) and ensure execution against agreed client service plans.
- Coordinate the end-to-end U.S. compliance process, including document/data requests, workpaper tracking, review readiness, and timely filing deliverables.
- Support U.S. tax accounting/provision deliverables where in scope, coordinating calendars, data flows, and review cycles.
- Lead recurring client touchpoints (status calls, working sessions, and readouts), summarize progress, and maintain a strong working relationship with client tax and finance stakeholders.
- Review and deliver engagement status reporting/dashboards (e.g., weekly internal, monthly client-facing), ensuring it is accurate, decision-useful, and action-oriented.
- Leverage reporting and analytics tools to track engagement health, visualize status, and support decision making; expected to help scope and shape the required visuals (e.g., KPIs, dashboards, status views) with stakeholders, and liaise or coordinate with data engineers/developers.
- Be empowered to resolve day‑to‑day scope, timeline, and resourcing decisions within agreed parameters, escalating material risks or commercial impacts to engagement leadership.
- Drive issue resolution and risk management by:
- Identifying and escalating technical, process, data, and timing risks early.
- Coordinating with Service line teams as needed (e.g., state and local tax (SALT), international tax, credits & incentives, tax controversy) to resolve issues and align positions.
- Manage engagement economics by organizing staffing plans, tracking budget-to-actuals, forecasting fees, monitoring realization, and communicating variances and change drivers to engagement leadership.
- Promote quality and standardization by reinforcing templates, review protocols, documentation requirements, and engagement quality controls.
- Coach and develop junior team members, creating a positive learning culture through on-the-job coaching, timely feedback, and performance support.
Support on Transitions (New Engagements / Scope Changes)
- Lead onboarding/transition planning (kickoff, scope confirmation, stakeholder map, timelines, and roles) and provide timely status updates to Partner/Principal/Managing Director (PPMD) and engagement leadership.
- Stand up engagement operations including workflow tracking, deliverable calendars, secure collaboration methods, and intake/checklist processes.
- Coordinate with Deloitte teams to confirm responsibilities, handoffs, and interfaces across workstreams.
- Draft or support drafting the Statement of Work (SOW), including scope boundaries, assumptions, deliverables, and change control triggers.
Qualifications / Experience
- Post-graduation/master’s in business administration
- 7+ years of total relevant experience, with demonstrated experience that includes:
- U.S. corporate income tax compliance (federal and multistate; extensions/estimates and filing coordination), and
- Engagement management / project management responsibilities (planning, staffing, budgeting, status reporting, risk/issue management, and client communications).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to translate complex topics into clear status, decisions needed, and next steps.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements/workstreams simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing timelines and scope.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; proven risk/issue management and problem-solving mindset.
- Proven ability to coach, influence, and collaborate across levels and teams.
- Comfort with senior stakeholder interaction and regular coordination with PPMDs.
- Strong technology skills: advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and data organization/reporting; familiarity with common tax and workflow/data tools (e.g., tax provision/compliance platforms and analytics tools such as Power BI/Alteryx) is a plus.
