Assistant Manager – NL ITS SQL DBA

Work you'll do:

As a Senior SQL DBA, you are responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance tuning of SQL Server databases across both Azure cloud and on-premises environments. The role ensures high availability, security, and optimal performance of database systems, supports application development teams, and leads database modernization and migration initiatives.

Key responsibilities will include:

Database Administration & Support

·       Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server instances (on-premises and Azure SQL).

·       Monitor database performance, implement tuning, and optimize queries for efficiency.

·       Manage database security, including user access, roles, and encryption.

·       Perform regular database backups, restores, and disaster recovery testing.

·       Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Always On, Log Shipping, Replication, Azure Geo-Replication).

·       Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, incidents, and outages.

Cloud & Hybrid Database Management

·       Provision, configure, and manage Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.

·       Support data migration from on-premises to Azure using tools such as Azure Data Migration Service, SSIS, or custom scripts.

·       Optimize cloud resource usage and costs.

·       Integrate on-premises and cloud data sources as needed.

Automation & Scripting

·       Develop and maintain scripts for automation of routine DBA tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or Azure CLI.

·       Implement monitoring and alerting solutions for proactive issue detection.

Compliance & Security

·       Ensure compliance with internal and external security standards and policies.

·       Conduct regular audits and vulnerability assessments.

·       Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies.

Backup & Disaster Recovery:

·       Develop and manage database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability. Conduct regular backup testing and recovery drills.

Collaboration & Leadership

·       Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders.

·       Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance.

·       Participate in project planning, capacity planning, and architecture reviews.

Collaboration & Documentation:

·       Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to deliver integrated solutions.

·       Document architectures, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

·       Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers.

Required Skills & Experience:

·       6–8 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in both on-premises and Azure environments.

·       Strong expertise in SQL Server versions (2016 and above), including installation, configuration, and administration.

·       Experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.

·       Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.

·       Solid understanding of backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies.

·       Experience with database migration tools and methodologies (e.g., Azure DMS, SSIS).

·       Scripting skills in T-SQL and PowerShell; familiarity with Azure CLI is a plus.

·       Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.

·       Knowledge of security best practices, including encryption, auditing, and compliance.

·       Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Azure Monitor etc.).

·       Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.

·       Experience with Microsoft Fabric or related Microsoft analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics) is an added advantage.

·       Exposure to Python, Spark, or other data engineering tools within Microsoft Fabric is an added advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

·       Microsoft certifications (DP-300, DP-700, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics). Good to have: AZ-900, SC-900.
