Job Description for a Cognos Administrator
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cognos Administrator to manage and support our IBM Cognos Analytics environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Cognos infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance tuning, and providing user support. This role requires strong technical expertise in Cognos administration, troubleshooting, and a good understanding of reporting and data warehousing concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
Cognos Server Administration:
Install, configure, and maintain Cognos Analytics environments (development, test, and production).
Manage and monitor Cognos services, including starting/stopping services, scheduling jobs, and troubleshooting issues.
Apply patches and upgrades to ensure systems remain secure, efficient, and up to date.
Performance Tuning and Optimization:
Monitor system performance and resource usage.
Optimize Cognos environments for better efficiency and scalability.
Troubleshoot and resolve performance-related issues.
Security Management:
Manage security configurations, including user roles, groups, and access controls.
Ensure proper authentication mechanisms (LDAP, Active Directory) are integrated with Cognos.
Report Deployment and Management:
Assist in report deployment and manage report scheduling for users.
Maintain report catalog, organize folders, and ensure appropriate security on reports and packages.
Support and Troubleshooting:
Provide Level 2/3 support for users and resolve issues related to report generation, performance, and data errors.
Collaborate with developers and data architects to ensure proper data integration and reporting functionality.
Monitor logs and troubleshoot any errors in report execution or data access.
Backup and Recovery:
Ensure regular backups of Cognos configurations, content stores, and other relevant assets.
Create recovery plans and test restore procedures.
Collaboration:
Work closely with DBAs, developers, business analysts, and IT teams to support reporting needs and resolve issues.
Engage with business stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver solutions effectively.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed documentation of Cognos environments, configurations, and processes.
Create user manuals, best practices, and guidelines for end users.
